UM Rock Climbing Team Member ranked second
in (All China) National University Sport Climbing Southern Region Open 2016

Supported by the Federation of University Sports of China and organized by the Social Sports Center of the Guangdong Province, the “(All China) National University Sport Climbing Southern Region Open 2016 was held on 24 and 25 September 2016 at the Over The Limit Climbing Gym in Guangzhou. After the preliminary round and final round, Ng Ka Meng, Vice Captain of the UM Rock Climbing Team, got second place in the Men’s Category A.

The competition attracted 200 climbers from 15 tertiary education institutes from Hong Kong, Macau and mainland regions that are south of the Yangtze River. Climbers may participate in 2 events – Difficulty or Speed – the goal is to climb as high as possible or as fast as possible.

The UM Rock Climbing Team sent 5 male and 3 female members to compete in the Men’s and Women’s Category A Difficulty event. Category A is the highest level in this competition.

In the end, vice captain Ng Ka Meng did well in both preliminary round and final round, capturing a silver medal in the Difficulty event of the Men’s Category A. Captain Yu Liheng and team member Lam Chan Chong ranked fifth and sixth respectively in the same event. Their effort brought UM fourth place in the Group ranking of Men’s Category A . In Women’s Category A, Fu RongRong and Kam Hoi Kei placed fourth and sixth in the Difficulty event.
